Dec 24, 2013 · gotta say I disagree with 11 Gauge here. changing out the chip in my RAT 2 was noticabley different and well worth doing. I didn't need to hear a bunch of vintage RAT's to determine the sound I should be hearing. to the OP - do it! buy a RAT 2, throw a LM308 in. you'll have a great sounding RAT. Jul 21, 2009 · You can even buy the chip alone on Ebay or Craigslist but my advice would be try to just find an older Rat on Ebay. Prices range immensely. Usually in the $120-$160 range, but I lucked out and got a wonderful American Vintage Rat for 65 bucks.
Apr 02, 2015 · The LM308 has not been manufactured for close to 20 years. All of them out there are in surplus. Having a production pedal that uses an obsolete chip is just not practical for us. Also, don't forget that you can run the Fat Rat at 18v. I will also point out that the Fat Rat, in the stock positions, is the exact same circuit as the Whiteface.
